Abiding in Him
December 18, 2023 by GBM International
It is crazy that in the natural the year 2023 has almost come to an end. We have just two weeks left, before the New Year and the start of something brand new.
I don’t know about you, but as the new year approaches I always have the hope of something fresh and exciting. But one thing that I never seem to accomplish much is keeping my New Year resolutions going.
What are you like when it comes to this? I think many people start with a big bang, but seldom keep going with the changes they want to make. Perhaps before the new year starts you will say things like,
“This year I am going to get up earlier each day, drink more water, and exercise more.”
Maybe you desire to do those things. But how long can you be successful doing such things in the natural? You might be like so many people who go off like a rocket shooting into the sky. It looks awesome and everyone gets excited.
But just as in the natural that rocket fizzles out and tumbles back to the earth, so it is often the case with New Year resolutions. They seldom succeed, because there is nothing to keep them going. And for sure your willpower can only keep you going for so long.
A More Powerful Way
In the natural, you will often fail, no matter how hard you try or how good your intentions are. But in the spiritual that is another story and you can succeed in the things you desire.
John 15:7 is one of my favorite Scriptures and it says this.
If you remain in me, and my [rhema] words remain in you, you may ask for yourself whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.
Let’s look at this a bit more closely. The first part says that you need to remain in the Lord. Well, that is pretty easy to do. Just the act of you being born again keeps you remaining in Him because the Holy Spirit becomes part of you.
But now it says that you need to let His rhema words remain in you. How do you do that? You have to hear Him speaking to you all the time. This means that you cannot go a day without hearing Him talking to you.
How can you hear His words to you? You can start by reading the Word. This is not exactly rhema words. When you read the Word you are reading logos or written down words.
But as you continue to fill yourself with the Word, He can bring those Scriptures to life. He can begin to speak His rhema words of hope and encouragement to you. These are personal words to you where He says,
“My child I love you and I will indeed fulfill My promises to you, even as you have desired.”
You can hear His rhema words when you speak to Him through journaling. You write down what you want to know from Him and He answers and speaks directly to you.
These are the words that need to remain in your heart. But if you are anything like me, I have a terrible memory and often forget all the things that someone has told me.
So this is where you need to make a note of those promises as He gives them to you. Write them down somewhere, then begin to speak them out loud. You can speak His written Word as well as the personal rhema words that He speaks to you.
When you do this His rhema words will continue to abide in you. And then you can be guaranteed that He will bless you in abundance with whatever you desire from Him.
Do not spend a day without Him speaking His words of encouragement to you. Keep listening to His promises and keep them in your heart all the time.
Then when you feel a little faithless and you begin to find your spiritual walk difficult, speak out those rhema words again. When you hear those words it will give you new hope. You will see the pictures in your mind and will get excited about them being fulfilled.
When you do this, Satan cannot lie to you any longer and try to fill your heart with negative things. It won’t be long before you bounce back in victory and receive all the things you desire.
As you begin to put these things into practice, may you have an abundantly blessed coming year. May it be filled with hope and the good future that the Lord has for you.
Many blessings,
