Rest in Your Salvation

“Oh no, I’ve blown it! I’ve sinned so badly that I will never make it to heaven. I don’t think I can even ask the Lord to forgive me.”

Have you ever felt like this? If you have, you will know that this sort of thing can completely stop you in your spiritual tracks, because you feel totally guilty and under condemnation.

If you have been plagued by these sorts of thoughts, I want to set you free in this article, so keep on reading.

I was saved at the age of 14, and things went pretty well with me in my spiritual life for about three years. Then Satan started to play his tricks on me and began to tempt me to think negative things about the Holy Spirit.

I kept those thoughts in my mind all the time and never shared them with anyone. But I was convinced that I had committed the unpardonable sin and was going to hell, even though I had given my life to the Lord.

That terrible thought plagued me day in and day out for months. I had no joy in the Lord and felt like everything was a total waste of time. I was just a failure and a rotten sinner who was doomed.

Then one day I was at a relative’s home and I happened to see a Christian book on her lounge table. I picked it up and started browsing through it and noticed a short chapter on the unpardonable sin.

I was afraid to read what the guy said in case it reinforced what I thought, but it did the opposite. It totally set me free!

The author said that the unpardonable sin is simply not accepting the free gift of salvation and giving your life to Christ. But I had done that, and the Holy Spirit had come to live inside of me and to be my guarantee of salvation.

This is what Paul says about this in Ephesians 1:13 and 14.

In whom you also [trusted], after you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after you had believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the
guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of his glory.

In the natural, when you have a guarantee of something, you can rest that whatever that guarantee relates to is sure. They have given their word and you don’t have to worry about them going back on it. It is a done deal. In the same way, the Holy Spirit is your guarantee that you are headed for heaven.

When I saw how Satan had been lying to me through my thoughts, I just said I was not going to accept this anymore. I then felt as though a huge weight fell off me and felt as free as a bird.

The Lord helped me to see Satan for what He really was – a liar and the father of all lies. And after that time everything changed for me in my spiritual life.

Know the Truth

I have seen many articles and heard many things lately that seem to be pointing to this theme: that even if you are born again, if you sin you are going straight to hell. You have to walk in sinless perfection or you are doomed and not going to make it.

But let me ask you this question. Why did Jesus go through a terrible, painful death to die for your sins – past, present, and future – if missing the mark could make you go to hell?

Let me tell you, we will never be sinless on this side of the grave! This is because the seed of sin from Adam and Eve’s fall in the garden is always with us. So no matter how hard you try you will not make it by trying to be perfect.

Even when you sin, however, Jesus knows about it and He says,

“I paid the price. This person is guiltless.”

I love Psalm 103:12 which says,

As far as the east is from the west, [so] far has he removed our transgressions from us.

So, do you feel as though you are not going to make it to heaven to be with the Lord? Do you feel as though you have missed the mark and there is no hope for you?

Well, do you believe in the Lord Jesus and do you love Him? Have you asked Him into your life? Then let that burden go now and rest in Him because your salvation is sure.

This is what the Lord wants to say to you.

“My child, I died especially for you, because I loved you. You are precious to Me, and when I died I saw you and loved you because I knew that you would come to know Me and believe in Me. That is all that I require of you, My child.

So do not let the enemy lie to you and take away the hope of your salvation. Do not let him tell you that you will not make it into My presence for eternity.

For no matter what you do or no matter how you live your life, I will never leave you nor forsake you. You are engraved on the palms of My hands and I am continually aware of you.

I know the struggles that you go through daily as the enemy tries to assail you and take you off the path. But My love for you will never change. And even if you stray and do miss the mark, I paid the price for you and you can be secure in My love and forgiveness.

So rest in Me My child, and know that there is nothing that will stop you from coming into My presence for eternity. Then we will be together with every person who loves Me and has made me their Lord and Savior. And then our joy will be full and without end, says the Lord.”

I hope that this article has encouraged you to keep going on for the Lord, but also not to strive so hard to get everything perfect.

Simply love the Lord each day, fellowship with Him, and leave everything else in His hand. That is how He wants you to walk in victory each day.

Do you know someone who has no hope for the future because they feel they sinned and have missed the mark? Feel free to forward this article to them.

Many blessings to you.
